Chinese affective platform economies: matchmaking, alive streaming, and performative work on Blued

The investigation information found in this article come from the author’s 2-year websites ethnography on Blued live streaming, also interview using the CEO of Blued (Geng ce) and 11 gay alive streamers. The remainder for this article was structured as follows. We first indicate how efficiency imbrication reinvigorates Blued’s program dynamics and transforms customers into performative laborers. Next, I determine how Blued’s multiple newer affordances structure gay live streamers’ labor procedures. Next, we review exactly how homosexual live streamers attempt to event Blued’s popular algorithms, the way they tend to be incentivized to contend for trending standing, and just how these methods develop intimately affective information.
